Snow like Ashes review

I'm posting this on a Saturday because I won't have time tomorrow. I hope you enjoy!

The" Snow like Ashes by Sara Raasch "book review

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.
Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.
So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

Ok so where do I start.....Let's talk about the cover first...which is obviously soooo beautiful. When I started getting deeper into the book the cover really made sense. First I thought : Uhhhh pretty ...but why a yin and yang symbol....but 10 or 20 pages into the book I got it(no spoilers).. There are 8 kingdoms in Premoria ( the place where this story takes place) . They are divided into 4 kingdoms. The Seasons and the Rhythms. They each are magical only because of one Season. Winter. It lies directly on a magical "spring". The Kingdoms didn't like the fact that Winter had so much power so Spring tore Winter apart and killed each and every one of the Winterians or made them slaves......Except for one little group of Winterians who haven't given up their hopes quite yet to get back Winter. The main character Meira is also part of this group like her best-friend and future-king Mather. Meira is such a kick-ass girl. She is smart, pretty and is a really good assasin.I instinctly liked her. Also her past isn't really easy to bear but she has still managed to become this strong young woman!
So this little group tries to save their kingdom...and let me tell you : It will get interesting! I liked the book but I kind of started reading it with very high-expectations and I got a bit disappointed. But that was my fault , I shouldn't have had so high expectations. Some parts just took a bit longer then I wanted them to take, and I was a bit bored, but the second boredom kicked in ,the action started and I was back on track! There were two plot twists in the book for me. The first one I kind of saw coming...but the second one...Oh my god...I couldn't continue reading for at least five whole minutes..which is a lot when you are engrossed in a good book. Also there will be a love triangle...but I don't know who to ship Heeeeeellllpppp ...if you have read this book let me know who you ship ..maybe you can help me!
It was a really nice read and I would like to read the next books in the series. :)

3.5 out of 5 cupcakes

So this was the only review for today. I read two more books this week. But one of them was a classic, which I did not like at all and the other one was a German book that I haven't found translated into English yet. But it was soooooo good. Translated it's called The pages of the world-(Die Seiten der Erde) by Kai Meyer. It was honestly such a good book..mostly because it was a book about books. It was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. I couldn't stop reading and this was one of the books that showed me why I read. It gives you this warm feeling when you open the part where you left off. It would be great if it's translated into English soon! Have a lovely weekend my lovelies!

DIY Bookmarks

School's out.....yeahhhh , so I have more time now so I thought about something and got a bit creative ....which is a major achievement for me. I've never really used any bookmarks because I thought they were unnecessary but a year ago I kind of started using them. But I discovered that bookmarks are pretty expensive ...that may be a reason why I never used I'm going to show you guys how to make bookmarks....enjoy!

Bookmark Nr. 1

You will need:
 carton or thicker paper

scissors and a glue

multi-coloured string

and a book page (don't worry I didn't destroy a book for this...I would never do that)

First you need to cut the book page, so it will fit on the piece of carton. You can also use two pages, so that both sides of the bookmark will be fully covered.

But make sure to leave a little bit of space at the top.

Then hole punch the top so that there will be a hole big enough to fit things through

You then tie the multi-coloured string to a knot.

And you pull it through the hole you made in the bookmark....

......and tie it to another knot .

You then start braiding the multi-coloured can do that until you're satisfied with the result and secure it with a knot.

The excessive pieces can be cut off.

Bookmark Nr.2

You will need:

scissors, glue, carton and coloured paper

Cut the coloured paper so you can cover the carton with it.

You will then need a pencil and a thick black marker/pen and possibly the Internet -Pinterest/tumblr to look for quotes you can write on the bookmark.

First write the quote with a pencil you can easily erase. Then write it again with the thicker pen/marker.

And your second bookmark is done! Can you guess what quote I used?...of course you can :)

I hope you liked this tutorial....I know that I'm no artist and some may believe that this is a really bad tutorial   but I actually like how the bookmarks turned out ;) hope you think so too.

Obsidian review

This is the last review of enjoy!!!!

The "Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout "book review

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.
I think I have been blessed by the book gods because I was able to read all these amazing books! Including this one. The cover is drool-worthy.....sooooooo hoooooottttttttttt
The book is about Katy who is a bookblogger (OMGGGGG) She moves into the house next to Daemon( who kind of pictured Daemon Salvadore from the Vampire Diaries when you heard the name of the main character?)
Katy quickly makes a friend called Dee who is the sister of Daemon. Unfortunately Daemon doesn't want them to be friends because he thinks Katy is a danger to his species....Yes spoiler-alert Daemon is an alien...but I guess you know that already because of the book description. But then he is forced to spend time with Katy because he accidently marks her. And no he doesn't mark her like a werewolf marks his Luna. They both dread it but Katy soon discovers what her neighbours really are.......
Hands down for the author. Seriously...... standing ovations. I first thought it was the ordinary vampire next door book, which is also quite nice to read but I kind of start to dread these types of stories just because I have read so many of them!  But Jennifer managed it to write about a quite untouched subject in the book world and turned it into a high-anticipated teenage- fantasy book. It's just fantastic and I definitely recommend it to you. Plus I totally ship Katy and Daemon: Kaemon or Daty ? Comment what their shipname should be!
I even ordered the whole series so I'm able to read it in the next few months. This book is addicting and you should get addicted to this story as well!

So these were all the reviews of today...they were quite a lot. But I forgot updating for so long that I needed to catch up on it. I promise that it will happen more recently now ,so that you won't be hit by a ton of reviews in the future. Check out my social media and my reading list on goodreads. Maybe we can start a book club ! See ya my lovelies and have a wonderful bookish week!

Erebos review

This is a book originally written in German but I looked it up and it has been translated into English

The "Erebos by Ursula Poznanski" book review

Enter. Or turn back. This is Erebos.'..Nick is given a sinister but brilliant computer game called Erebos. The game is highly addictive but asks its players to carry out actions in the real world in order to keep playing online, actions which become more and more terrifyingly manipulative. As Nick loses friends and all sense of right and wrong in the real world, he gains power and advances further towards his online goal - to become one of the Inner Circle of Erebos. But what is virtual and what is reality? How far will Nick go to achieve his goal? And what does Erebos really want?..Enter Erebos at your own risk. Exciting, suspenseful and totally unputdownable...
This book is the bomb...I normally don't review books I read in German but when I heard that it's also available in English I changed my mind. This is one of the best books I've read by far. It's amazing, it makes you forget about everything that you needed to do ( in my case learning for a test in chemistry) and it will send shivers down your spine. First of all the cover is so gorgeous, but as you may or may not know all the covers of Ursula Poznanski's books are gorgeous! It's also pretty creepy because the eye on the cover makes you feel like you're being watched. The book is a thriller, which is not really a category of books I read very often but this one is a big exception. So the book is told in the point of view of Nick who also gets to play this game called Erebos. Most of the parts in the book are about the scenes of the game in the point of view of the game character of Nick. Which also includes fantasy so maybe that's why I love it so much. Nick soon gets addicted to the game and doesn't really notice that something is very wrong with the game. It knows everything about Nick and one time he messes up an action he should have done in the real world and he gets kicked out. Nick is desperate to get back into the game but fails trying. He then realizes that something goes terribly wrong and he tries to discover the truth about Erebos. Until the end it's a matter of life and deaths and this book is now on the list of my favourites of 2016!

Wings review

This is the first book of the there will be coming more reviews of this series...hopefully

The "Wings by Aprilynne Pike" book review

Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.
Laurel is an extraordinary girl. She can only eat vegetables and fruits. So she isn't somebody that you can call a vegan by choice. She doesn't need to wash her hair with shampoo and she has never had acne problems like most of her teenage-friends. That may sound odd but one day she wakes up and she notices a flower on her back. She and her friend David try to figure out what it is. While doing that she discovers she is not the only one with powers like that. She mees Tamani, who is pretty similar to what she is. Laurel also gets in trouble for being the way she is and has to make decisions of life and death....dam dam dam...........
It sure is a high-fantasy novel and I liked it but I didn't really love it. The cover is beautiful and it is well written but Laurel sometimes makes wrong decisions and that sometimes wanted me to go into the book and shake her. For example the love triangle between her David and Tamani .... as you may have figured it out happens. But it's not something like the love triangle between Katniss, Gale and Peeta or Clary, Jace and Simon and it's not even like the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob ....although if you think about it ,it has some similarities. Like straight up I wanted to scream at Laurel for starting this triangle...why? it's not even shipable...I mean yeah feelings are feelings but don't go around and make out with both guys .......straight up noooooooooooooo.
This is not meant to be offensive and I did like the book, this is just my personal opinion. And I'm probably like 100% going to read the whole entire series to find out about how it continues....or maybe just to scream at Laurel a bit more ...jk ;)

The Picture of Dorian Gray review

I read a lot of classics this months...I don't really have a reason for it and I'm not going to write reviews about all of them . Besides this book I also read the Great Gatsby, A Midsummer Night's Dream and I want to read the Scarlet Letter soon.

The "Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde " book review

(I haven't found a proper description for this book neither on the book nor somewhere else, so I wrote it myself)

The book is about Dorian Gray who is a beautiful, wealthy, young man. He is new to London and he is the object of a painter called Basil. While being painted he is introduced to Lord Henry Wotton who is instantly blown away by the beauty of Dorian. They become good friends. But Henry makes Dorian to dread the process of getting older. So Dorian wishes to stay young and beautiful and instead of him a picture that Basil had drawn should age.
I could spank myself that I have never read a book of Oscar Wilde before. He is/ was ;( an amazing, cultivated writer and I could read his books every day. I first thought that it will be a book with real difficult English so I would spend my time looking into a dictionary rather than reading it. But it's so well written that I understood everything. At one point in the book I was a bit bored because of a three page description of the books that Dorian read (which was quite nice but damn....that lad sure reads a lot) The more I read the more I started to hate Sir Henry. He is a very smart man but his theories of life kind of screwed Dorian and made him grow pretty fond of himself...not in a good way. The influence of Henry broke him..which was devastating to witness because as a reader you slowly see it coming...and you hope that it won't come true. Every other chapter I closed the book and prayed that something will change......:(
It's a damn good book and it even made me watch the old and the new film adaption. I like the new version more....the actor is pretty gorgeous ...

Me before you review

This is the book that caused me to have a massive book slump of two days and an obsession of Ed Sheeran enjoy

The "Me before you by Jojo Moyes" book review

Lou Clark knows lots of things. She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick.

What Lou doesn't know is she's about to lose her job or that knowing what's coming is what keeps her sane.

Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he's going to put a stop to that.

What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.
I knew when I started reading this book that it will not end well. First of all the whole entire book community has been buzzing about this book. And comments like " I could not stop crying" made me suspect that someting was going to happen. But I haven't expected that....Oh my God... Ok so let's start at the beginning. Louisa aka Lou is a young woman with a funny taste in clothing. She has a job in a coffeeshop and kind of earns money for her whole entire family. All of a sudden she loses her job and has to look for a new one. She finds one: As a "nanny" of a disabled man. Well that's how she thinks it will be....Will is grumpy, depressive and doesn't want to live anymore. He despises Lou at first but little does he know that things will change soon. Ok ...I totally fell in love with Louisa. I love her character and her point of view . She is so delightful and full of enthusiasm. Will on the other hand is the complete opposite....
...Jojo Moyes did a great job in writing this book especially the change of point of views when you don't see it coming. The cover is gorgeous and you won't be able to put it down. I seriously read it in one day. It's like I breathed in the words. After I finished it I locked myself inside my room and watched the movie trailer.....they had to add "photograph" by Ed Sheeran..didn't they?! And that's how my obsession with Ed Sheeran started. But seriously, if the movie is anything like the book it will tear me apart.
An interesting fact is that there is a second book !!! I need it ....soon....when my heart is whole again....

Gorgeous Carat review

So this is a little bit different because this is not someting I would normally read....but there's always a first

The "Gorgeous Carat by You Higuri" book review

Florian Rochefort is the heir to a once-wealthy aristocratic family that has fallen on hard times. One way to save the family's fortune would be to sell the Flame of Mughal, a 120 carat diamond that has been entrusted to the Rochefort family, only Florian's mother refuses to part with the treasure. But then a distant relative, Ray Balzac Courland, shows up at a Rochefort family party, and becomes intrigued by Florian and his beautiful "amethyst" eyes. Ray offers to pay off the Rochefort debt in exchange for ownership of Florian, and much to Florian's dismay, his mother agrees. Florian's new life as Ray's property immediately gets chaotic as he discovers that Ray is actually the famous phantom thief, Noir, who has been haunting Paris!
.................................................................................................................(description of the first one)

A friend lent me these "books" a long time ago. And ever since then they have been lying in my bookshelf. ....Until maybe two weeks ago when I had a real bad reading slump after "Me before you " was bad. And I discovered that I still had these books on my bookshelf and I started reading them and within one day I finished the whole entire series. (There are four books in the first series and two in the second one) Oh my god they were so good. I've had so bad experience with mangas because normally the mangas I first started reading were about schoolgirls with short skirts trying to seduce their teacher or other things I did not really want to read about ...but this series....Whoa. It's a high-fantasy "novel" and it's amazing. I totally ship Noir and Florian. They are my number one OTP ,but they both don't know how to express their feelings for eachother. Which got me into an even bigger reading slump at the end of the series. But I don't care because I still ship them. Together the go on adventures and they normally get in trouble a lot especially Florian who is obviously saved by Noir. Florian slowly learns about the past of Noir. And of course while discovering his past he discovers a few not so great surprises aka a few bad villains . The whole series is full of mystery, adventure and fantasy. It's definitely a good series for people who want to start reading mangas.

Broken Juliet review

As you may or may not know: I have recently read "Bad Romeo" a book by Leisa Rayven. So I managed to read the second book which is called Broken Juliet.

The "Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven "book review

How do you fix a love that’s been broken beyond repair?

For years, Cassie Taylor tried to forget about Ethan Holt. He was the one great love of her life, and when he failed to return her love, a part of her died forever. Or so she thought. Now she and Ethan are sharing a Broadway stage, and he’s determined to win her back. Claiming to be a changed man, he’s finally able to say all the things she needed to hear years ago, but can she believe him? What makes this time different from all his other broken promises?

Ethan knows he can’t change their tumultuous past, but if he’s going to have any chance of being with the woman he loves, he’ll need to convince Cassie that her future belongs with him.

The book starts where the first one ended, which I find quite good because I don't like it when the second book of a series starts like 5 years later. That totally confuses and mind-effs me as a reader, so I'm pretty thankful to Leisa Rayven, that she didn't do that. I liked the first book and I started reading this book with really high expectations.....What can I say : I was kind of disappointed. Not to give away any spoilers but in the first book the main character Ethan was pretty depressive and he had a lot of problems with self-confidence that he seriously needed to deal with. But in this book Cassie and Ethan magically seemed to have switched roles. So now Cassie is the broken one and Ethan is the one that tries to build her up. Also I did not like that Ethan says all these cheesy romantic "you're the only one that I love"-lines. I mean come on.  The first few times I liked it and I kind of wanted him to be my boyfriend.... but then........dam dam dam..... it was just too much. I guess there's a reason he's called Romeo....
Jk, although I didn't like this book as much as I would have liked it , it was still a nice and quick read on a Sunday afternoon with a cup of coffee/tea in your hands.....2.5 out of 5 cupcakes

About me

Hey my lovelies!
If you are new to this page let me introduce myself: My name is Anna and I love books. I'm still going to school and  I currently live in Germany. I'm also a native speaker but I've been learning English for a long time now so I consider myself a fluent speaker.

I first started reading when I was 5 and I instantly fell in love with books. They are my passion and it's an amazing feeling when you can go somewhere else but still stay at the same place.

I hope you enjoy my reviews and all of the other stuff I'll be posting!

Short Information

Hey lovelies!
I'm sorry I haven't updated for so long....but I've been quite busy. Thankfully "Easter break " starts next week so I'll be able to update more frequently! Also I decided to write reviews on Sundays and I'll be telling you what books I've read at the end of every month. And what books I'm going to read on the 1st of every month.

I hope you all find this idea more organized!

See ya my lovelies
